Hi! It is that time of year again where some of us are going back to school. However, Fall 2020 is one special semester to say the least. That “going back to school” energy might hit a little differently. Seeing friends daily after summer ends, over-preparing by buying too many school supplies, and climbing all those stairs (thanks CSUSM) might not be the first thing that comes to mind this time around. Yea, things might be different but it is all going to be okay. You are not alone in any of it. We have come up with some things that should help you with your first day back. TIPS AND TRICKS 1. Pay for tuition At CSUSM, if you do not pay for tuition when it is due, your classes will be withdrawn. Make sure you get this done or talk to a financial advisor. There are payment plans so plan accordingly! 2. Look at your schedule Go on your student portal and check what type of learning model your class is set up as this semester. There are in-person, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous classes. Make sure to check if you have MANDATORY Zoom calls. You don’t want to miss those! 3. Be prepared for classes Make sure that you are proficient in using Cougar Courses and Zoom. Being knowledgeable n how to use these platforms will lessen the room for mistakes and errors that may affect your grades. Check for assignment and test dates. Use a planner or jot these down on a to-do list! 4. Set aside time for classes Although classes are online, having a weekly routine is what will make you successful. If you do have Zoom classes, make sure you are alert and stay interactive. Being in bed is nice, don’t get me wrong, but this will keep you motivated to learn! Make sure you are in an environment that isn’t too distracting and has those GOOD STUDY VIBES. 5. Resources https://www.csusm.edu/csusmasone This link has everything you need to know about Fall 2020 at CSUSM. If you are struggling or need a question answered, use your resources. Faculty and staff know that this may be a difficult time for some individuals so they are willing to help! 6. Stay up to date and involved Make sure that you are staying connected. It may not be an “ideal college experience” but many organization and clubs are still hosting events! aKDPhi is still hosting a mock recruitment this Fall. Recruitment Our recruitment chairs, Isabella and Loralei (talk to them on the aKDPhi recruitment page on IG), have been working hard to plan this semester's rush “The Roadmap to Sisterhood Is in the Stars.” Due to the current situation of having classes mostly online and having to social distance, all rush events will be hosted on Zoom starting at 6 PM. Anyone can participate and meet the sisters. We don’t want anyone to feel pressure or shy away from attending because of how chaotic the past year has been for all of us. We are having this “mock” recruitment as a way to get to know potential members as well as we can, while also sharing as much about us with all of you!
